This beach-inspired home theme was designed to offer casual elegance. These clients love to entertain, so they renovated this space to be an open-concept space and it was important to keep the visual flow from room to room.
One great way to accomplish this was with drapery, top treatments and blinds in related colours and materials. We used the same drapery in the living room, in the dining room and for Roman shade fabric in the kitchen. The fabric chosen is a linen with great drapability and the pattern is a leaf and twig pattern in brown, yellow and teal tones on a cream background that brings the outdoors in.
To keep a “beachy” feel, we chose a bamboo type fabric for the roller shade from our Budget Blinds Signature Series, in Saba Basil, to add texture and anchor the space. This gave it an earthy feel. To add a bit of a “lake” feel, we played up the teal in the drapery fabric and allowed that colour to pop in other accessories like the bottles, pillows, throw and unique teal side tables. To add the grassy feel, we played up the green in the drapery fabric by adding fresh, bright green accent pillows.
One of the things to think about when planning an open-concept space home is audio transfer. You can imagine how loud a space will get when filled with music, laughter and conversation. This is one of the primary reasons we love to add lots of soft surfaces, to help absorb the sound. This is especially true in the kitchen with so many hard surfaces — so we added drapes, area rugs, pillows, etc., wherever we could. Not only are the soft goods functional adding visual accent and comfort, but they also add colour and personality to our clients’ homes.
