Planning on visiting family and friends over the holidays? Or taking a romantic trip to Rome to “getaway” from the hustle and bustle? Traveling over the holidays can be stressful, expensive and overwhelming. With a little planning and the right attitude, you don’t have to worry about turning into the Grinch! You can survive the crowded airport or travel delay the season brings your way with our holiday travel tips. There are simple ways to make it to your destination (and back) without losing your holiday cheer!
Make sure to always check your flights ahead of time. This may seem obvious, but with all the craziness surrounding you this time of year you are likely to forget to check your flight status. Follow your airlines and airports via Twitter and Facebook, as many of them post the speediest updates directly to their feeds— start following them now! Also, download your airline’s app to get flight updates texted directly to your smartphone. It is that easy and will make sure you don’t miss any bumps along the way.
If possible, avoid checking a bag. Not only will it get you in and out of the airport more quickly, but there’s also no possibility of lost luggage. However, you maybe thinking “what about all the gifts we will need to bring home?” We got you covered. Pack an empty duffle bag to fill with the gifts you receive. It is cheaper to only check a bag on the way back home than both ways.
Charge Your Devices
Travel delays are common during the holiday season, which means you and the other hundreds of people on your flight will be fighting for power outlets near your gate. Bring a power pack or a few battery chargers for your portable electronic devices. Better yet, pack a few non-electronic items in case you are in a pinch. A good book, deck of cards and crossword puzzle will go a long way!
Snacks, Snacks and More Snacks
Stock up on snacks like granola bars, trail mix, beef jerky, goldfish and other non-perishable items that will satisfy you and your children. Long lines at airport restaurants and shops means you could be waiting a long time for a quick bite and we don’t need anyone getting cranky due to hunger. By packing your own snacks, you will save time and money— win, win!
Invest In Hand Sanitizer
The most wonderful time of year is also the most sniffly time of year! Pack plenty of hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to avoid any bug that is going around. We recommend wiping down your seat, tray table and seat belt once on the airplane. You can never be too cautious and the last thing you need is the flu while visiting family you only get to see once a year.
Happy travels for an even happier holiday season! We hope these tips and tricks will be helpful along the way.
